New Zealand’s first missionary school opens on 12 august 1816
the new school stood beside missionary Thomas Kendall’s house in the small Church Missionary Society settlement at Hohi in the Bay of Islands, which had been founded 18 months earlier. he school had an area for Maori students to sleep and a cordoned-off platform for teachers and Pākehā students to sleep it also had A fireplace with a brick chimney provided for heating and cooking. the school closed in 1818 because the building became a mission store.
